INTRODUCTION TO BUILDING PERMIT IN CAMEROON

The law appears to be reticent on the class of business that requires a Building permit in Cameroon. However, upon a careful examination of the regulations, it does appear that any person involved in the business of building construction, and development of properties will be regulated by this regulation. Thus, it is our considered view that real estate companies come under the scope of businesses that require this license.

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING CONSTRUCTION PERMITS IN CAMEROON

The procedure for obtaining construction permit in Cameroon is complex but can be summarized as follows;

  1. Get Architectural drawings
  2. Get a survey plan
  3. Get structural drawings with detailing (Calculations and letter of structural stability from a certified engineer
  4. Get title documents, tax clearance, and the Government fee
  5. Submission of documents to the district office and payment 
  6. Confirmation of receipt at the accurate department of the district office
  7. Site inspection from the ministry of physical planning and urban development.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR BUILDING PERMITS IN CAMEROON (COUNCIL)

The additional requirements for building permits in Cameroon, especially at the level of the Council are as follows;

  1. Town planning certificate
  2. Hygiene and sanitation
  3. Payment Quittance

APPLYING FOR A BUILDING PERMIT IN CAMEROON

Applying for a building permit in Cameroon can be made by the property owner or the developer. However, it is safer to use the service of a legal practitioner.
